Driving Directions from Prism to Garland Street Garage (Garland Map)

1.  Turn right out of the Prism parking lot
2.  Continue driving North on Razorback Road
3.  Turn right onto W Maple St/AR-112.
4.  Turn left onto N Garland Ave/AR-112 N.
5.  The Parking Garage is on the right. You will drive to the light at Cleveland & Garland and turn right. The entrance is directly to the right.

Walking Directions to Student Union from Garland Street Garage 

1.  Park your car, and exit on to Garland street
2.  Walk south on Garland street towards campus
3.  Use the crosswalk to cross Maple Street
5.  Enter the Campus at Maple and Garland, and continue walking on the left sidewalk until you see the Union sky bridge
6.  Cross the street using one of the crosswalks before reaching the sky bridge
7.  The Union Entry will be to your right directly under the sky bridge.  Someone in a Blue Prism shirt will be there to help guide you to the correct room.

What’s going on?

We are having an end-of-year awards ceremony complete with a Kindergarten graduation and performances from every class.

Coming from the South on I-540…

1. Take exit 60 to merge onto AR-112 N/S Cato Springs Rd toward Razorback Road. Continue to follow AR-112 N (Razorback Road).
2. Turn right on Meadow Street.
3. Turn left onto Stadium Drive.
4. You will pass several fraternity houses and residence halls. After the last residence hall, there will be a driveway leading up the hill. Turn left here.
5. The Stadium Deck Parking Garage will be straight ahead on the right. The Arkansas Union is the building to the left and is connected by several different walkways.

Coming from the North on 1-540…

1. Take exit 66 for AR-112.
2. Turn right on AR-112 S/Garland Ave/Hall Ave
3. Continue to follow Garland Avenue. The Union is the large building that is straight past the intersection of Garland and Maple.

Where should I park?
Parking in the Garland Street Garage and the Union Garage are both free after 5:00 PM. The Union parking garage is connected to the student union. Look for Blue Signs and people in Prism Blue Shirts who will direct you to the Union Theater.

What should my child wear?

• Preschool Boys: Black pants, white shirt
• Preschool Girls: Black leotard, pink tights
• School Age Boys: Khaki pants, white shirt
• School Age Girls: Black leotard, pink tights, Khaki Pants (uniform pants are fine, white shirt)
• Please make sure all girls have their hair in a bun when they arrive at the theater.

 Is there anything else I should know?

• Prism will close at 4:30 PM on Thursday. If this is a hardship for your family, please email Misty at misty.newcomb@prismeducationcenter.org and she will try to help you find alternate arrangements.
• All school age students should be at the Union by 5 PM.
• We get that this is early and makes dinner challenging. We will be selling sack lunches for $5 that you and your family can eat either on the way to the Union or on the picnic tables that are both inside/outside the Union. You can pick these lunches up when you pick up your students. Please let us know by noon on Thursday if you would like to order a sack lunch.

We will be placing an order for our Prism “Blue” t-shirts  as well as a new Prism “Baseball” jersey tee.  Uniform is not required for the pre-K or summer program, however we have found many families prefer the Prism t-shirt option instead of dealing with clothes selection each morning.

Our end-of-year ceremony is quickly approaching. This ceremony will be extra special because it will be a celebration of the end of our first school year. The program will start with the Kindergarten Graduation and then move into performances from each of the classrooms and programs, as well as an Awards Ceremony. Prism Education Center

This all started at the beginning of the semester when our after school students decorated several boxes to gather books around the community.  The AmeriCorps members took these boxes to great community partners such as:

• Nightbird Books
• Terra Tots
• Arsaga’s on Gregg Street
• Olive Tree Salon
• Infiniti Cheer
• NWA Conservatory of Classical Ballet
• U.S. Pizza Co.
• Chick-Fil-A on MLK Blvd

Over the last two weeks, individuals in the community and Dickson Street Used Bookstore donated over 800 books for the purposes of this book drive. On Monday, the Brown Room students organized these books into bundles to be dropped off at a local non-profit, Potter’s House Kids (PHK), who will send them home with the children they serve.

Research shows that the presence of books in a home can make a tremendous difference in the long-term reading skills of a student. Students that are at-risk for academic challenges especially benefit from having books in the home.

Over the next semester, the Brown Room students at Prism will engage in more service learning projects. Throughout the month they will serve within the center as reading buddies and other special projects. Each month, they will also develop and implement a separate service project that benefits community members outside of our center. One of our wonderful AmeriCorps members, Iesha Green, is leading this project in our after school program. As an AmeriCorps member, Iesha is a true model of service to the students and community. Be on the lookout for the “fingerprints” of Prism students in our community over the next semester.
